What Can I Expect?

Wages are dependent on the position. Summer staff are paid bi-weekly with many earning a weekly salary. Some hourly positions are available.

Except for inclusion, kitchen, maintenance, and custodial employees, Phantom Lake YMCA Camp summer staff will stay on grounds. Counselors are required to stay in platform tents with their campers each week, while other positions may have living arrangements that vary.

Each summer staff member will be allotted 24 hours off for each week that occurs between the end of checkout procedures on Saturday and the staff meeting on Sunday. Off periods throughout the week vary on the position. Additional time-off requests are available at the discretion of camp leadership.

Staff will be trained for their specific positions as well as get trained in program planning and facilitation, behavior management, safety procedures, camp policies, and more. Staff will participate in many team building activities and games, campfires, and have many other opportunities to bond with other staff.

Requirements:
Referral must be hired onto the staff team
Both staff members must be present on staff for at least 6 weeks of the summer
Both staff members must have a positive end of summer eval

Camp Counselors
Camp counselors are responsible for overall leadership, guidance, and program facilitation for all camp participants.
Group Leaders
Group Leaders will serve as a liaison for day and res camp counselors, helping support the daily needs of campers. They will help program activities, provide important camper documentation, and directly support counselors.

Waterfront Coordinator
The Waterfront Coordinator is responsible for all waterfront programming and staff throughout the course of the summer.
Swim Specialist
The Swim Specialist is responsible for programming at the swimming area.
Admiral
The Admiral is responsible for all programming at the boating area.

The Res PC is responsible for the overall leadership, and guidance of overnight campers and staff.
Day Camp Program Coordinator (Day PC)
The Day PC is responsible for the overall leadership, and guidance of day camp campers and staff.

Coordinator of Youth Leaders Programs (Dugout Coordinator)
The Dugout Coordinator is responsible for oversight of all youth leaders (SDPs and YLTs) and mentors throughout the course of the summer.
Youth Leader Mentor (Dugout Mentor)
The Mentor is responsible for the guidance of SDPs and YLTs throughout the summer.

The Health Intern is responsible for the health and safety of all campers and staff.

Mental, Emotional, Social, Health and Inclusion (MESHI) Coordinator (Hourly Position)
The MESHI Coordinator provides direct supervision, training, and support to the MESHI Intern team and ensures proper implementation of the MESHI program.
Mental, Emotional, Social, Health and Inclusion (MESHI) Intern (Hourly Position)
The MESHI Intern is a dedicated staff member who provides individualized support to a camper with disabilities, health conditions, or support needs, within the inclusive environment of Phantom Lake YMCA Camp’s Day and Residential Camp Programs.

The Kitchen Staff are required to assist in food preparation and serving the meals.

Maintenance staff are responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of camp facilities throughout the summer.

Custodial staff are responsible for helping maintain cleanliness of camp facilities and spaces.
